Ways
to manage your money
Getting
grants
- Community
Care Social Fund. The major
criterion for a grant is that you are in
receipt of income support, or applying
for it.You need to be setting up home
because (a) you are leaving an
institution or similar (i.e. a hostel,
hospital, prison) (b) at risk of
returning to residential care or similar.
Otherwise you may be eligible for a loan.
- Bristol
Municipal Charities. Have to be
a resident in Bristol for at least 5
years. Tel:929 0084
- Dolphin
Society. Give money to have a
phone installed. Ring for their criteria.
Tel:01275 810365
Methods
of paying bills
Weekly
or Fortnightly. You can pay all your
bills at a post office when you get your money.
This is the simplest way of budgeting as you know
exactly how much you have left to spend on food,
clothing and other necessities.
- Gas:
Bristish Gas offer a gas payment card.
- Electricity:
You can have a payment book or a keymeter
fitted.
- Telephone:
You can buy phone stamps at a post
office.
- TV
Licence: You can buy TV stamps
at a post office.
- Bristol
Water and Wessex Water: Both
water companies will give you payment
books for use at a post office.
Monthly
by Direct Debit: If you have a bank
account you can set up your bills so they get
paid monthly straight out of your account.
Quarterly
when the bill comes in. This means that you need
to have a bank or post office account and put
money into it regularly.
